A couple of hours later, Clem and Rowan looked up when the front door bells at the WAC rang. Unworried, because Mar and Dakota were directly outside and Remy was in the arts center with them, they smiled when they saw it was Dara Cochran, Drew Hollisterâs second. With short reddish-gold hair and gray eyes that could turn ice cold when she was provoked, the dangerous counterintelligence expert Dara was in reality stayed hidden behind her mild and friendly exterior.
The APS associate crossed the entranceway so she could kiss both Rowan and Clem on their cheeks. âYou two look absolutely awesome.â Rowan had donned a white chiffon pantsuit with a keyhole neckline and wide legs, her blonde hair held away from her face with a matching white chiffon band. Dara gave Remy a high five then smirked. âDidnât you just pull the cushy assignment, cuz, getting to hang out with these two beauties all day in your fine threads, instead of doing some real work.â She grinned as Remy flipped her off, while Rowan and Clem giggled.
Dara rapidly grew serious. âI have some news for you, Rem. Is there somewhere we could talk for a few minutes? Drew and I heard some things when we were down in Purgatory that you need to know about.â
âUse our office,â Rowan urged them. âThat way, you can close the door for privacy if you need to.â Clem nodded in agreement and kissed Remy quickly as the pair left.
Dara followed Remy down a short hallway, past the door behind where the stairs to Clemâs apartment were, to the small office across from the bathroom by the steel back door. The two APS butches went into the office, closing the door behind them, and made themselves comfortable. Dara laced her fingers behind her head and leaned back in her chair.
âLooks like that motherfucker Waylon Holtâaka, Screechâand his crew have been busy, cuz. One thing theyâre not is fucking discreet, however, and these assholes are definitely trouble. Theyâve been bragging their fool heads off about this huge score they have coming up before Christmas, and they havenât exactly been shy about spreading the word around. There is a long line of people out the door already, wanting to get their hands on some of their shit, based on what theyâre promising.â
âJesus.â Remy rubbed the back of neck. âSo, weâre not talking about only pickpocket action, if theyâre promising goods.â
Dara shook her head no.
âTheyâre promising jewelry, artwork, computers, liquor, prescription drugsâyou fucking name it. Classic high-dollar items that are pretty common in home invasion theft. They can make a killing on the stolen jewelry and artwork by selling it to some shady flea market vendors. The rest of the stuff? They can offload the liquor and prescription drugs easy to their mothers and their mothersâ friends, especially if theyâre anything like Tammy Holt. Thereâs a fucking piece of work.â
Dara squinted at Remy. âAre you sure your woman is related to these people? Even reading about them made Drew and I feel like weâd fallen ass first into an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies.
